JOHN DAVID WARE – “UNBRIDLED”

Filmmaker John David Ware tells us about his latest film Unbridled, the upcoming drama about redemption and triumph through horse-human friendships.

Tell us a little about your background as a filmmaker, sir?

I was always the kid watching TV in the other room. I was always kid out in the hall drawing pictures and making roller movies, which is a shoebox and the insides of a paper towel roll that advances one frame at a time to tell a story.  I had a healthy fantasy life early on. So I went to Film School and moved from Ohio to Hollywood.  I’ve been helping new filmmakers get their start for the last 15 years and this was my 1st feature film as a director.

What appealed to you about directing this particular film?

I love horses and I am eager to promote awareness of the issue of Human Trafficking.  This film was the perfect vehicle for that.

Horses are only a small part of the story but we’d be remiss to ask, are you a rider? Have horses?

They are actually a major part of the film. I have ridden since I was a little boy. In fact, I wanted to be a jockey growing up, but at 140 lbs, I was far to heavy for the saddle. I’ve never owned horses, but I rode for Miami University’s equestrian team and I enjoy volunteering at the barn just to be around them.  They are magical to me.

What are your hopes for the film?

Human trafficking is an enormous problem in this world. There are more slaves today than there have been at any time and that is horrible. Sunlight is the best disinfectant and if we can shine it in there and save just one person or make the awareness enough to where this issue is recognized by a policeman or an emergency room doctor, then we will have done our job.  We are currently working with human trafficking warriors to make this film available for awareness and for encouraging those on the front lines of the battle. The film shows a very hopeful triumph over these forces of darkness.

And what’s next for you, sir?

I will be producing my 1st feature in March.  I can’t tell you a lot about it, but it will be a thriller or sci-fi or both. I’m also working on developing several films and a musical stage play.
