Writer-Director-Producer Ethan Paisley made a name for himself in 2017. At just 16, the budding artist kicked off the year in Cannes at the premiere of his second-ever feature film Point 453, followed by a speech at a TEDx conference and later earned the prestigious title Best Young Filmmaker from the renowned LA Film Awards.
Between his various accolades, Paisley has been diligently working to change the climate of sex trafficking in the USA. The journey started with making a short film about the issue and sharing it in high school classrooms around California. “Female students wrote our team to commend the film and how it helped them disclose personal sexual abuse stories to their counselors. The experience gave my life a new aim. I realized how I could change the world with my art.” Paisley quotes. He has since organized multiple events with Shared Hope International and The End it Movement in an effort to combat the problem of sex trafficking. Paisley’s passion recently inspired a feature-length script, which he has been developing with 10 student screenwriters for the past year and a half.
And from what Ethan has told us, we understand that script is now becoming what could be his breakout project as a writer-producer. The script was just recently optioned by Sleeperwave Films, the production company behind Supremacy starring Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali. Indrani and GK Reid, most well-known for their Bravo show Double Exposure, are involved as director and producer. Their latest narrative film Till Human Voices Wake Us stars Lindsay Lohan and won over 20 awards in festivals worldwide. Ethan admits to teasing his new project on social media. “I’ve been using the hashtag #secretproject to lure everyone’s attention. I will be announcing more details next year, when I’m allowed to!”
More details will come after Paisley attends the Sundance Film Festival in 2018, where he plans to network the project with Siena Oberman, another producer on the project. “It’s an honor to go to Sundance. I’m bringing my Grandpa along too because he’s a total cinephile.”
We are too excited to hear more about the movie and everyone involved! Check out Ethan Paisley on WELAB’s February 2018 issue!
